How one Song Changed her Life...
Glennis Grace (born in Amsterdam, June 19th 1978) has been one of Holland’s best singers for years. Her careeer started early in life, when she shared a stage with none other than Julio Iglesias, as an 11-year-old. From that moment on it was clear: Glennis Grace is here to stay!
Glennis gained recognition back in 1994, when she sang Whitney Houston’s ‘One Moment in Time’ in the Soundmixshow. The entire Dutch audience was won over by the 16-year-old when she won the talent show
Eurovison and Singing in Dutch
In 2005, Glennis competed in the Euriovision Song Contest in Kiev, Russia. She represented the Netherlands with the powerful ballad ‘My Impossible Dream’. After Eurovision, Glennis went on to release a few more English singles, but soon it became clear that singing in Dutch had her heart. In 2008 Glennis touched souls all over the country when she sang ‘Als je slaapt’ during a broadcast of Carlo & Irene. The song, which she wrote for her son Anthony became a huge hit.
A New Look and Solidifying Fame
In 2010 her signature curls made way for straight hair. With this fresh new look also came a new musical direction, with the Dutch single ‘Als je mij weer aankijkt’ as a result. In 2011, Glennis’ career was lifted even higher when she was a contestant on the tv show ‘De beste zangers van Nederland’ (The Best Singers in the Netherlands, red.). With her rendition of Volumia’s ‘Afscheid’ she permanently won over the Dutch public, and scored a number 1 song within a week. For many weeks on end, the single was the best sold single in the Netherlands, reaching Gold in May 2011 and an Edison nomination for ‘Best Single’.
One Night Only
To celebrate her success, Glennis gave an exclusive concert in Club Dauphine in Amsterdam. On this ‘One Night Only’, Glennis sang her favorite songs, accompanied by her band. The recording of that night was released on CD and DVD soon after and became a huge hit. Glennis was awarded her first Platinum Record.
In the summer of 2013 the song ‘Ondanks Alles’ was released, as the title song for the Dutch movie ‘Smoorverliefd.’ In the meantime, Glennis worked on another Dutch album with producer Edwin Evers. They had the crème de la crème of the Dutch music industry, including John Ewbank, write songs for the album. It was with John Ewbank that Glennis released the surprising single ‘Als het ons niets zou doen’. 2013 was also the year she won the Buma NL Award for Best Female Singer for the fourth year in a row. And again, she headlined a sold out Heineken Music Hall.
This Is My Voice; more personal than ever
In May of 2012, Glennis recorded her most ‘personal album ever’, together with producers Edwin Evers and Fluitsma & van Tijn. Especially ‘Dat is mijn wens’ and ‘Saddest Goodbye’ (written by Racoon) leave a lasting impression. The album also includes the singles ‘Ik ben niet van jou’ and ‘One Chance’, a duet with Dutch rapper Lange Frans. For a charity that fights child abuse, Glennis records the duet ‘Wil je niet nog 1 nacht’ with Edwin Evers. The song gets awarded with a Gold Record and all the proceeds were donated to the charity. On September 14th, 2012, Glennis reached a new peak: a sold out show in the Heineken Music Hall.
One Christmas Night Only
‘One Christmas Night Only’ was Glennis’ first Christmas album. It was a mix of her favorite Christmas hits, paired with a few original songs. Tens of thousands of copies were sold in record time, making it one of the best selling Dutch Christmas albums of all time.
Touring theaters and ‘Bitterzoet’
In 2014, a lifelong dream became reality when Glennis went on tour with her own show in theaters all over the country. It was a smash hit with over 14.000 tickets sold in 20 theaters. The singer went on tour again in 2015, and released the album ‘Bitterzoet’ right after. It contained the highlights of tour, as well as a few new tracks, including ‘Zeg maar niks’, a beautiful song about her father.
Ladies of Soul
Since 2014, Glennis has been a part of the occasional group Ladies of Soul, consisting of the leading ladies in the Dutch Music industry: Trijntje Oosterhuis, Edsilia Rombley, Berget Lewis, Candy Dulfer and Glennis Grace. A show unlike anything ever performed before, consisting of pop, R&B and soul songs, not only from their own discography, but also plenty of covers. The Ladies of Soul were an instant hit, and still are today, with sold out shows every year since 2014. On March 24th, 2018, there will be a special Anniversary edition of the Ladies of Soul in the Ziggo Dome. Click here for more info.
